‘The Creative’ – Hairstylist (Feat. Melissa Angelique Pretorius)

Creativity comes in all shapes and forms, not just limited to the ‘arts’.  Hair.  An extension of us; a way we express ourselves.  To be creative with a living extension of another person is something quite amazing.  I never gave it much thought before and dismissed most of it as a haircut.  Hair is personal and many of us prefer a style that we have in mind or stay to a style that we think suits us.  A creative hairstylist has it all mapped out by the time they look at your face, the endless possibilities are rushing around their mind.

Meet Melissa.  An extraordinary hairstylist who will not only make you look and feel like a million bucks, but also puts on spectacular hair shows.  With creations that are surreal and out of this world, she is anything but boring.  She likes different, new and creative and is most definitely not a cliché.  To witness her in her creative element is really something.  100% focused on the final result and the love for her craft is blatantly evident.

Go find Melissa!  Awesome artist and equally as important – an awesome person!  Melissa works for Cadillac Barbie hair and tattoo studio and Moments in time hair and beauty.

I scream, you’ce scream, we all scream for IceDream!

I know a guy.  I’ve also trimmed a hedge, so whats my point?  This guy happens to be an ice-cream maker; arguably the best in Cape Town.  I was fortunate enough to catch up briefly with my old friend  whilst he made chocolate and then coffee ice-cream!  Ladies and gentleman, please meet Mr Fabrizio Lazzarotto.  He is the man responsible for the real Italian ice-cream that comes out of his family shop – IceDream.  He was just recently invited to  the Sherbeth international ice-cream festival in Sicily where he and dozens of other ice-cream makers around the world gathered for this prestigious annual event.  He was the only South African ice-cream maker to be invited. 100% Italian.  100% South African. 100% genuine and 300% deliciously awesome!

Since we are (apparently) moving into summer, I thought Id start this ‘photo-essay’ series with everyone’s favourite dessert…Ice-cream!  If you find yourself in the mood for real Italian ice-cream, give his little Hout bay shop a visit.  He is an amazing person producing AMAZING ice-cream!

What the Blog?!

Last week was quite a busy one.  I work as an assistant to a photographer and last week work was busy, which is great!  But unfortunately I don’t have a weekly post as I would normally have.   No worries, I do have some cool posts planned including a new ‘Creatives’ episode and possibly even a new series…

If you haven’t seen this new free magazine about Cape Town called Urban Edge Magazine go look for it!  It’s really fantastic and encourages the local talents that I’m sure many of us take for granted or may not even know about.  It’s also really fantastic because they feature this very blog!  Thanks guys!  So go visit www.urbanedgemag.com and support the local market and talent.

So this being a photo blog I’d feel bad if I didn’t post a photograph along with it.  So since I’ve been busy on shoots assisting instead of shooting myself, I’ll post a picture I took at a shoot I assisted for at Steenberg Wine Estate.  This shot was taken on their golf course on my Crapberry.  My phone was all I had!  So keep an eye out on this blog, please spread the news and join my mailing list, for there shall be new content soon…ish.

Check out these distribution points for Urban Edge Magazine and spread the word!
